“Holy Chicken Brooder, Batman!” First Impressions

We have been counting down the days to our “hatch date,” and today, I received confirmation

that our little fluff balls were right on time.

Getting and raising baby chicks is super fun and super easy if you are prepared for them and for the first time, I feel that we actually are.

5 Days ago, we were not prepared and I was stressed.

5 Days ago, the space in the back of our barn sat cleared out, awaiting a quick temporary build to house the 15 baby chicks, due to arrive “any day now” and I was getting ready to leave for a mini “Girls Trip.”

The Hubz promised me he and the Boys would get the space ready. The Hubz has NEVER LET ME DOWN.. but, let’s be honest; I’m a worrier. The last thing I wanted was 15 chickens shitting all over my freshly painted bathroom. I only ordered 15 because the plan was to put them in the barn until they could be introduced to our older ladies. When we placed the order, we had 24 days to figure something out and now we had three. 3 Days until “Hatch Date” and what if they hatched early?!

Complete with perch and an old sign from my childhood; my Grandparents’ Printing Business.

I suggested grabbing some pallets, mesh screening, a few screws, and calling it a day. The Hubz shot it down faster than I could get the words out. Okay then…. See ya Sunday! And I left. The Girls and I were gone a total of 2 days and when we got home and saw the Mini Palace The Hubz and the Boys threw together [in a day], we were in awe. I’m pretty sure the first thing I said was, “THAT is NOT temporary.” Nope. Not temporary at all.

Although this project turned out to be much fancier than need be, I absolutely LOVE IT! For me, my mind is already planning future uses…
